What this tool calculates
The calculator converts acres or hectares to square metres, removes excluded land, divides usable area by row and plant spacing, then adds a replacement allowance and estimated plant cost.
How to use it
Map the actual planting zone rather than the whole title area. Remove creeks, access tracks, buildings, firebreaks and areas left for natural regeneration. Use mature species spacing and a mortality allowance suited to the site and aftercare program.

Important limits
Simple density does not design a healthy ecosystem. Terrain, canopy width, species mix, water availability, contour access, fire management and habitat goals should shape the final planting plan.
Plan usable area, not paper area
A hectare contains 10,000 square metres and an acre contains about 4,046.86 square metres, but not every part of a property can or should be planted. Excluding operational and conservation areas before calculating prevents inflated orders.
Worked example
One hectare with 15% excluded leaves 8,500 square metres. Rows three metres apart with plants every two metres provide about 1,416 positions. A 10% replacement allowance lifts the order to about 1,558 plants. At $4 each, the indicative plant cost is $6,232.
