This is a cash-cost comparison. It does not price lost features, staff time, transferred data or productivity. A service that prevents larger costs may still be worth retaining.
A practical cancellation check
Recurring charges are easy to overlook because each payment can appear small. Looking at a full year makes the trade-off clearer. Before cancelling a business service, export essential files, confirm retention rules and check whether an annual contract has an exit date. For household subscriptions, review recent use rather than cancelling something that would immediately be purchased again elsewhere.
Worked example
A $49 monthly service replaced by a $12 plan saves $37 per month. With no exit fee, that is $444 over twelve months. If migration costs $100, the first-year net saving becomes $344 and the switch recovers its cost during the third month.
