Etsy Fees 2024Profit Margin

How It Works

Etsy's fee structure has a few layers that aren't always obvious when you're pricing up a new listing, and the difference between what a customer pays and what hits your bank account can be surprising the first time you see it.

This calculator breaks down exactly what Etsy takes from each sale — the listing fee, the transaction fee on the sale price including postage, and the payment processing fee — and tells you your net profit after those deductions and your production costs.

Getting your pricing right on Etsy is about more than covering costs — you need to account for the time to make the item, photograph it, write the listing, and handle customer queries. Many sellers underestimate their own time and end up effectively working for less than minimum wage. Use this to make sure the maths actually works.

How to use it

  1. Enter your item sale price and postage charge.
  2. Enter your production cost (materials, supplies, packaging).
  3. Click Calculate to see Etsy's fees and your net profit.

Frequently Asked Questions

As of 2024: a $0.20 USD listing fee per item (charged every 4 months or when sold), a 6.5% transaction fee on the sale price plus postage, and a payment processing fee of approximately 3-4% plus a small fixed amount depending on your country. Offsite Ads fees (12-15%) apply if Etsy advertises your listing and it results in a sale.

Etsy automatically advertises some listings on Google, Facebook, and other platforms. If a customer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, Etsy charges an additional 12% (if your shop made over $10,000 in the previous 12 months) or 15% (under $10,000). Sellers above $10,000 cannot opt out.

Free postage listings tend to perform better in Etsy search and can improve conversion rates. The trade-off is that Etsy's transaction fee applies to postage even when listed separately, so the total fee is the same either way — it's mainly about how your listing appears to buyers.

Competing on price alone on Etsy is a race you generally can't win against mass manufacturers. Competing on quality, uniqueness, story, and customer experience is a much more sustainable strategy. Your about page, photography, and packaging all contribute to why someone pays more for your item.
